Lustre House

Rising from the ground, the polished concrete feels like a wholly organic part of the space. It adds a sense of permanence and peace, completing a seductive trio of materials alongside brick and timber.

Project detail

Ashvin, founder and director of the architect agency Variant Office, explains how polished concrete has transformed this contemporary home.

In addition to a polished concrete floor, the statement concrete island is the beating heart of this open-plan kitchen-living area. It was designed and cast in situ along with a host of matching benches and seats. Within these, recesses were cast to create a multitude of storage options.

The island measures 3 x 1.25m and was cast in a single pour. The formwork was created allowing for hob and sink cut outs as well as several power sockets in the end panel. The clients opted for a concrete worktop due to it’s durability and ability to create a completely custom design, tailored specifically to their needs. The island, benches and floor were all cast in our Light Natural colour to allow them to beautifully connect and flow together.

Ash sums it up perfectly when he says “Polished concrete surfaces really are timeless and last”.

We couldn’t agree more!
