Case Study

Old Bailey

This high profile project in the heart of London featured a Terrazzo floor throughout the reception and lift lobby areas. To ensure the reception was a real feature, the floor was designed with almost 200m of curved and straight brass rails.

Project detail

The existing structural sub floor was an eclectic mix of cast in-situ concrete, pre-cast hollow beams and very old block and beam flooring. The depths of all three ranged wildly, requiring 40mm coverage in some places to 140mm in others.

To get around this wrinkle we chose a low shrink concrete that would allow us to move between the different depths more easily. After this had cured we came back and fitted around 200m of brass rails based on the architects’ exacting design. The Terrazzo system was then installed and diamond polished to create an absolutely stunning end result.
