Lazenby’s shotblasted concrete bridge panels tell of Stowmarket’s lawn mower history. These external concrete story tellers are approximately 2m high, 3m wide and 300mm deep. Artist Clare Curtis was commissioned in 2007 to personalize and decorate 17 cast concrete parapet panels to run along two new road bridges that were to cross the River Gripping.
|Client||Suffolk County Council and Stowmarket Town Council|
|Location||Stowmarket River Bridge|
|Colour||Lazenby shotblasting (Concrete panels were client-supplied)|
Each panel weighed 3000kg and were transported to a warehouse in Suffolk. Self-adhesive templates, cut by Lazenby, faithfully replicated Clare’s original linocut design.
Lazenby’s shotblasting process exposed the matrix aggregate in the concrete. All of the finished surfaces were sealed with a water-based sealer before the main contractor fitted the bridge abutments.
